Lesson 6.4 Washing Machine & Dryer

Washer and Dryer:

• While the washer and dryer cleaning instructions are together, clean them separately.
• Cleaning around and behind the washer and dryer (if doable):
  • Carefully pull the dryer away from the wall to access. Open the door and grab top of dryer then gently begin pulling it away from the wall.
  • Using warm soapy water and a fresh cleaning towel, clean top of the washer first, clean both sides of the washer, any knobs/handles and the back of the dryer. Repeat this step for the washer.
  • Clean the side and top areas of cabinets around the washer and dryer. (if applicable)
  • Sweep and mop the floor behind the washer and dryer, use the appropriate floor cleaner.
  • Push washer and dryer back into its original positions.

• Clean inside the washer:
  • Open the washer and remove anything inside the washer.
  • Use warm soapy water and a fresh cleaning towel, thoroughly clean within the washer.
  • If the detergent compartment is detachable, remove it, clean it in the sink area, thoroughly rinse it and place it back into position.
  • Clean the inner door and the rubber seal around the edge of the door.
  • Using a glass cleaner, clean the door glass then close the door. Close the door. Clean the door glass with a glass cleaner and wipe down the outer door.
  • If washer smells like mildew, place Clorox in the washer bleach dispenser. Place wash cycle on quick cycle and water temperature to cold; upon completion, open the door take a damp towel to wipe away any excess water in the inside and along the edges of the inner washer.  Let the washer door open for 24 hours.

• Clean inside the dryer:
  • Open the dryer and remove anything inside the dryer.
  • Pull out the lint screen from the dryer. Free the screen of any lint; placing the lint in a trash bag.
  • Scrub the lint screen with water and a small amount of soap.
  • Using a dryer lint brush, place it deep down in the opening where the lint screen goes and remove debris and lint.
  • Dry the lint screen and place it back into position.
  • Using warm soapy water and fresh cleaning towel, thoroughly clean within the dryer.
  • Clean the inner door and the rubber seal around the edge of the door. Close the door and wipe the surface of the outer door.
• Washer and dryer drawers: (if exists)
  • Pull washer and dry drawers completely out and place on countertop.
• Turn the drawers on its side, wiping out any dirt particles with a damp towel.
• Using warm soap water and a fresh cleaning towel, clean the tracks and edges removing any dirt or grime.
• Wipe the drawer frames to the washer.
• Place the drawers back into the washer and dryer, closing the drawers. Wipes clean the front of the drawer.
• Once again refresh your warm soapy water and get a fresh towel.
