Lesson 2.3 Cabinets & Shelves
Cabinets (interior and exterior): (if exists)
- If there are upper and lower cabinets, remember to proceed in the top-to-bottom approach for overall cleaning.
- Depending on the condition of the cabinets a putty knife or non-scratch pad may be needed for cleaning.
- Open the cabinet, depose of any items left in the cabinet. Starting with the top shelf of the cabinet, clean the cabinet shelves and walls from top to bottom, using a degreaser cleaner, warm soapy water and a clean towel.
- While the cabinet door is open, clean around the cabinet’s frame and the inside of the cabinet door.
- Close the door then clean the outside of the cabinet door and knobs/handles.
- If the cabinet is not connected to the ceiling, clean the tip top of the exterior of the cabinet.
- If the cabinet is not connected to the countertop, clean underneath
- Repeat these steps, until all the cabinets are cleaned.

Now refresh the hand-held bucket with warm, soapy water and get a clean towel.
Cabinet Drawers: (if exists)
- Pull cabinet drawer completely out and place on countertop.
- Turn the drawer on its side, wiping out any dirt particles with a damp towel.
- Use a putty knife or a non-scratch pad to remove any stubborn or hard to remove dirt, then proceed with cleaning inside of the drawer.
- Using a degreaser, clean the tracks and edges removing any dirt or grime.
- Wipe off the drawer frame to the cabinet.
- Place the drawer back into the cabinet and clean the front of the drawer and its knobs/handles.
- Proceed to cleaning the cabinet underneath the drawer.
- Repeat this process until all drawers are clean.
Shelves and Clothing Rods: (if exists)
- Starting with the top shelf, clean each individual shelf and its wall from top to bottom, using a degreaser and warm soapy water or furniture polish and a clean towel.
- Note: If shelves are made of wood, use furniture polish.
- Clean and polish rack with glass cleaner.
- Repeat these steps if multiple shelves and or clothing rods exist.
Now refresh the hand-held bucket with warm soapy water and get a clean towel.
