Lesson 1.3 – Cabinet Cleaning Process

Commence Top-Level Cleaning:

The cleaning process begins from top to bottom, use a step stool or ladder to address the top of cabinets and top cabinets shelves. This structured approach ensures that no dust and debris will settle on already clean surfaces.

Upper Cabinets (interior and exterior):

1. Depending on the condition of the cabinets a putty knife or non-scratch pad may be needed for cleaning.
2. Open the cabinet, depose of any items left in the cabinet. Starting with the top shelf of the cabinet, clean the cabinet shelves and walls from top to bottom, using a degreaser cleaner, warm soapy water and a clean towel.
3. While the cabinet door is open, clean around the cabinet’s frame, hinges (all sides), and the inside of the cabinet door.
4. Close the door then clean the outside of the cabinet door and its knobs or handles.
5. If the cabinet is not connected to the ceiling, clean top exterior of the cabinet.
6. Clean underneath the cabinet.
7. Repeat these steps, until all the upper cabinets are cleaned.

Evaluate Lower Cabinets and Drawers (interior and exterior):

Evaluate the condition of the cabinets and drawers to determine if a putty knife or non-scratch pad may be needed for cleaning. Dispose of any items from cabinets and drawers before cleaning.

Cleaning Lower Cabinet Drawers:

1. Pull lower cabinet drawer completely out and take them to your wash station.
2. Turn the drawer on its side, wiping out any dirt particles with a damp cloth.
3. Use a putty knife or a non-scratch pad to remove any stubborn or hard to remove dirt, then proceed with cleaning inside of the drawer.
4. Using a degreaser, clean the tracks and edges removing any dirt or grime.
5. Wipe off the drawer frame to the cabinet.
6. Place the drawer back into the cabinet and clean the front of the drawer and its knobs or handles.
7. Proceed to cleaning the cabinet underneath the drawer.

Cleaning Lower-Level Cabinets:

1. Open the lower cabinet, starting with the top shelf of the cabinet, clean the cabinet shelves and walls from top to bottom, using a degreaser cleaner, warm soapy water and a clean towel.
2. While the cabinet door is open, clean around the cabinet’s frame, hinges (all sides), and the inside of the cabinet’s door.
3. Close the door then clean the outside of the cabinet door and its knobs or handles.
4. Repeat these steps, until all drawers and lower cabinets are cleaned.
